Miles Austin More Focused On ‘Field Bugs’ Than Receptions

DALLAS- The coaching staff of the Dallas Cowboys is having their problems. Young wide receiver Miles Austin, although having shown talent, tends to be distracted by what he calls ‘field bugs’ when he runs his routes. Austin, without notice, has been flying through the air at what coaches think will be a reception, then at the last minute ‘blanks on the ball’, his attention diverted to a variety of insects which live in the artificial rubber turf of the playing field.
“It’s a real problem,” said one coach on the condition of anonymity. “Miles can get to the ball, but he needs to stay focused on it, and not on the bugs. He has this problem even in practice. It’s like he just becomes one with the bugs as soon as he spots them. It’s impossible to get his attention sometimes.”
According to another source, Miles seems to lack concentration even in the huddle, staring at the ground looking for the bugs.
“He does seem to run his routes correctly however. So, we’re not sure where his attention begins and where it ends. The one thing we do know is the ball keeps hitting Miles in the head,” the source said.
Coaches and Tony Romo have had several meetings about the problem, and have come up with a possible answer.
“We are considering placing some fake bug-like creatures on the football hoping they will catch Miles’ eye,” Romo said. “I actually came up with the idea, and the coaches are working on it as we speak.”
Miles Austin said he would speak to reporters about the issue, but only on the condition that they dressed like spiders. No word yet on whether reporters are willing to do this. Roy Williams should surely benefit from this.
