Tarvaris Jackson Feels Demotion Unfair

September 17, 2008 by admin

MINNEAPOLIS- Brad Childress, coach of the Minnesota Vikings, has demoted quarterback Tarvaris Jackson to a backup role for the rest of the season. Childress and the Vikings organization tried to groom Jackson over the past three years with results that were less than satisfactory to them. Jackson has displayed flashes at times, but mostly hindered the team in its efforts to be an offensive juggernaut.

Gus Frerotte, a long time veteran, has been promoted to starting quarterback effective immediately.

“We like Tarvaris,” coach Childress said, “but he isn’t the spice we need to make the spiced ham we make up here. We need someone who can connect with receivers, and tight ends, and throw to backs, and be effective, you know real spice.”

It’s always been a question why the Vikings didn’t upgrade the position earlier. Three years of wasted time in the NFL seems quite a lot to many, especially Vikings fans. One insider says the Vikes were hoping that Jackson would put more pepper on the ball as he developed, but that never happened. Another said if the quarterback had studied the playbook more he would have come to the table with a full flavor for the game.

“He might have thrown the ball with more zest all season,” the insider said.

But Tarvaris feels the organization has given up on him too early.

“Three years is nothing. You need a lot longer than that to be a hot chili in this league. I’ve been doing well. This club is just impatient that’s all. They want this team ready to eat, and we are hungry, but they expect us to pack it all down right away. And that just doesn’t make any sense. You have to sample as you go, and then savor the opportunities. That’s all I was doing, trying to get the recipe for success right. If that’s not good enough for them, then hell, someone else cook the ham.”

Gus Frerotte will be cooking the Viking ham until he can’t take the heat, but for now he dons the chef’s hat. Adrian Peterson was reportedly as excited as a kid and a cookie jar.
